Sunset Boulevard? LA, Oct 2007 (D.G., Sony)
Notes from D.G.:
Cindy loves this place. She saw it in her dreams even before she knew it existed.
The site was dredged in the 30's for land fill for houses in Pacific Palisades, and it filled naturally into a lake. Some honcho from 20th Century Fox in the 40's had the windmill built exactly to 400 yr old specs and his family lived there for a while. Then this Paramahansa Yogananda who was VERY famous throughout the US had a vision that he was going to get this property, and the guy who owned it had a vision to donate it to Yogananda!
The full name of the Lake Shrine is "the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake & Shrine." The windmill is still a chapel used for services by his followers on Sunday mornings.
The address here is 17190 Sunset Boulevard, Pacific Palisades, CA. But it's a place most visitors to L.A. (and most Angelenos, for that matter) never discover. It's tucked away in a small ravine near the spot where Sunset Boulevard meets the Pacific Ocean.
